In the lead-up to the Nov. 8 SoCal Women’s Leadership Summit in Los Angeles, Women in Technology Hollywood (WiTH) is sharing stories relaying the lasting impact of the organization.
When Maria first connected with us, she was living in a shelter with her two young children. With a background in retail but a passion for problem-solving, Maria always dreamed of doing something bigger, something that would allow her to support her family and build a stable future.
But without the skills or resources, those dreams felt distant.
Through our community partners, Maria learned not just technical skills, but also how to build confidence in a space where she never saw herself before.
After completing the program, Maria landed her first job as an entry-level IT support specialist. Within a year, she was promoted, and today, she’s working towards becoming a software developer—her kids proudly telling anyone who’ll listen that their mom “fixes computers and helps people.”
Maria’s story is just one of many. From young girls discovering STEM careers are for them, to women like Maria finding stability through tech jobs, our work is about transforming lives. But we can’t do it alone.
